The museum is located on the outskirts of the town in the ancient Borgo Annunziata

The museum is housed in a 14th c. Carmelite Convent which was considerably redesigned between the 16th and 18th centuries, not far from the celebrated Sanctuary of Santissima Annunziata, where the marble statue of the "Madonna of Trapani", attributed to Nino Pisano, is kept and venerated.

The museum illustrates with its collections of paintings and sculptures the development of the decorative art in the territory of Trapani and in particular that of applied art, which was very important in the field of coral objects, majolica, gold, silver, and cribs.

The collections. The museum originated from the private collection of Count Agostino Pepoli, a strong promoter of the institution at the beginning of the 20th century. Other significant additions have come from deconsecrated convents in Trapani and from the Fardelliana Art Gallery, a rich collection of works of the Neapolitan school donated by General G. B. Fardella to the town of his birth.
The original foundation was later enlarged by bequests, loans and donations of numerous collections of antiquarian interest and of decorative art: noteworthy are the donations of Count Hernandez di Erice and of the Sieri Pepoli Hospice.

The museum displays paintings and sculptures and dedicates particular attention to the decorative and applied arts.
